Phasing - Whitley has the ability to become intangible and extend this aura to items on his person. While intangible, he can pass through any solid objects, sink into the earth, and even walk on smoke and water (he'd have to hold his breath, however). He is skilled enough to make portions of his body tangible while the rest of him is phased out, but this requires more focus. Appears semitransparent.
Physical - Whitley has been trained ruthlessly by his mentor and father, Alexander King, a notorious assassin. He understands the underlying principles and complexities of many different martial art forms including Judo, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga and others. His telekinetic senses have allowed him to easily pick up on a foe's weaknesses, enabling him to use quick, efficient takedowns designed to eliminate the threat swiftly. Furthermore, his combat skills are augmented by his phasing power.
Psychic - The Kings actually have the power to be very powerful telepaths and telekinetics, but due to moral restrictions, their powers have become mostly passive. Whitley is an alright psychic with plenty of room to improve if he chooses.
Arsenal - While Whitley's weaponry has been mostly seized by law enforcement, his knowledge of how to use them has not left him. He is trained in various melee weapons such as bo staves, batons, nunchucks, knives, swords, etc. He is also a trained shot with pistols and rifles but prefers hand to hand.
Hacking - Whitley enjoys working with electronics and computers. He is a proficient hacker.
Mind Block - Whitley has done away with the offensive abilities of telepathy, but he has trained himself enough to have a decent barrier against telepathic invasion. In the past, he's used this ability to hide his mind and emotions from psychic radars. He honestly doesn't trust the students of Coral Springs not to pry into his mind.
Telekinesis - Whitley is a powerful telekinetic. He can lift a twenty tons without straining himself. Moreover, he can move through the air at impressive speeds.
Psychic Senses - Whitley's best display of psychic power is his senses. He can feel molecular changes and patterns. Any changes, moves, or touches immediately alert Whitley's passive awareness. He can also sense the presence of all intelligent beings within 200 feet away from him. If he further concentrates, he can pinpoint the exact location of said life forms. This ability does not allow him to locate specific people, so he can't search for one person among a crowd of people, but he can pinpoint a few people within an abandoned warehouse.
Psionic Constructs - More recently, Whitley has developed the ability to focus his mental powers into constructs. These objects usually manifest in an electric blue and can be shaped however he wills granted he can concentrate on them. They serve two purposes and rarely both at the same time. Through telekinesis, the objects take a physical form and are capable of affecting things as a 'force' with kinetic energy. He can make shields, shapes, or more complex creations such as a blade. Through telepathy, the objects become a focus for all his usually defensive psychic ability. These constructs can trigger the pain receptors in the mind or scramble the mind without damaging tissue. They can stun, disorient, or knock someone unconscious. Combining the two is possible but done rarely as it decreases the effectiveness of both abilities.
Toxins and Electricity - Despite Whitley's constant boasting about being untouchable, he's actually not. He still needs to breathe, so gases and poisons emitted by air affect him normally. Electricity also disrupts the atomic structure of his 'ghost' form enough to pull him out of it and hurts him as if he was not intangible.
Amoral - Whitley was raised by a scoundrel, thief, and assassin rolled into one. While his father had some moral reservations, Whitley has none. He is unprincipled and unconcerned with right and wrong.
Infamous Bloodline - Whitley claims descent from a family lineage littered with assassins, thieves, con men, and other unsavory types. Currently this information has been revealed to as little as possible, and he'd like to keep it that way.
Ninja Emo - Whitley hates himself. He blames himself for a lot. The death of his mother, the failure of his father, and the downfall of his entire dynasty. He's been beaten and abused and is hurting because of it. But you couldn't tell with his overbeaing ego and all the weird (and mostly inappropriate) jokes he makes. He's faking, not just to the people around him, but to himself.
The King lineage has been some of the best Powered spies and thieves for generations. They far outclass most normal assassins out there, and they've been among the best of their profession for centuries. Their mastery at their craft was not based on skill alone, however. Members of their ancient house were blessed with the ability to phase in and out of reality and pass through physical objects with complete ease. This power became invaluable to their way of life. They became known as Ghosts, their real names known to no one, but members of the family.
Whitley King was born to Alexander King, a man known as Smoke to his colleagues. Whitley's father gained a reputation as an excellent corporate thief and he became rather rich by working for a variety of competing companies. He stole information, prototypes, and other items that could help other corporations gain an upper hand on their foes. He was very good at hiding any traces of breaking in and in most cases, it would not be discovered until long after he was gone. They would usually only discover the information was stolen when the other company began using it.
Despite being a thief and a scoundrel, Alexander had two rules that set him apart from most other spies and thieves. The first was that once he accepted a commission from one company, he would not accept counter offers from any other companies. This allowed the companies that hired him to trust him. The second was that he would avoid violence if at all possible and planned out his jobs that way. His pacifism could not be attributed to a lack of cruelty - trials of dead bodies complicated matters in his line of work. The King family also had their own set of principles. Despite being powerful psychics as well as phasers, they did not practice telepathy. The intrusion of another living being's mind disgusted their ancestors, and so they made every attempt to not resort to it until eventually they stopped teaching the ability to their young altogether.
When complications found Alexander's wife delivering a moon early, the mother ordered the servants of the King manor to focus their efforts on saving her child's life before her own. They worked valiantly to revive the child when he momentarily stopped breathing with the mother painfully begging and pleading with them. As increasingly blurry figures attempted to save the dying mother, she whispered a name into Alexander's ear before she slipped away.
The death of his beloved spouse did little to endear Whitley to his father. He had been the youngest of five siblings, and all of them could say that Whitley's early training was the harshest. It involved days of conditioning (sometimes without even eating), and frequent beatings at any misstep. All this before the age of thirteen. Little did Whitley know, that his father was awaiting Whitley's first step into puberty to see if he inherited the family power. If he did not, Alexander would have every right to disinherit Whitley and perhaps even banish him from their household. To the old man's disbelief, Whitley not only inherited the family power, but also telepathy and telekinetic abilities as wellsomething that hadn't showed up in the King bloodline in ages.
Whitley's real training soon began. The young preteen quickly grasped the phasing talents of his grandfathers and slowly developed his psychic abilities too. His father was often disappointed and shocked by his progress, but could no longer deny his skill. He constructed an assassination mission for him and Whitley. The mission started flawless with Whitley easily sneaking through all the security within the hotel that their target was residing in. He even managed to ruthlessly slaughter his mark. However, the child eventually stumbled into a problem while escaping. His training could not quite prepare him for the uncertainty of actual field mission. It led to capture of him and his father.
Whitley will never forget the look of utter disappointment from his father. But Alexander lied and said the target was killed by him. The head of the King family was sent to high security island prison while it was arranged for Whitley to be a student at Coral Springs High. His secret past is known only by the very head of the school, and for now, Whitley intends to keep it that way.
