Location

Coral Springs Courtyard
The path leads up the hill and into a large cobblestoned courtyard surrounded by four buildings. In the center of the courtyard is a greenspace, landscaped with flowers that spell out Coral Springs. In the center of the greenspace is a large statue, a memorial to the lives that were lost during the attack on the previous school. In the distance the tip of a lighthouse can ben seen. Between the buildings is a view of the ocean. It seems the school has been built on the tallest cliff of the island and has a lovely view of the open ocean to the southeast.

With the view between the buildings it almost seems like you can take to the skies and FLY. Maybe if you had wings, or some other way to FLY you could.

Scene

Sydney carries her lunch out into the courtyard. To the uninitiated, it would look like a steel dog bowl full of old bearing-balls, sauced with bullion. Which is pretty much what it is. Syd finds a place to sit out in the sun, shining fiercely as the light reflects off her, and takes a spoon full of her lunch. It sparks when she crunches on it.

As if everything in his life isn't bad enough right now, Sebastian is also being forced to go to Summer School…Boarding Summer School. Sure, his 'family' is local so it's not like he's there due to distance. Nope, it was part of The Deal.

Because adolescence and High School is such fun.

He was dropped off not too long ago and got 'settled' into his room but now he's been allowed to do a little exploration. Also, he got hungry. Really hungry.

Damn hormones.

A tray of food was procured and he was already seated outside when the Steel girl also takes a seat outside. Dark eyes look over at her bowl of metal and his own chosen cuisine and he comments in a voice that seems like it's just starting to settle, "Do they do special diets for everyone?
"
Sydney looks over at Sebastian, chews a moment more, and swallows. "As needed, yeah. I'd offer you some but… you know." She looks Sebastian over, curiously. "Don't think I've seen you before. Are you new? I'm Sydney. Iron Maiden if you're looking for me in the papers.

"Thanks, I think I'll get my daily iron intake from other sources," is offered in response. He takes a bite of his own sandwich…which may or may not have iron sources in it. There's a little sniff and a wry sort of smirk when asked if he's new, "Technically, yes." Oh, right. It's not about hiding here…sort of. "I'm Sebastian." There's another bite of his sandwich before he tilts his head at her, "Yeah, I've heard the name here and there. Cute, but I bet most of the kids here don't get the reference."

You say, "Nice to meet you. And yeah, well… I was in suspended animation from the early 80s to my freshman year here, so… it seemed like a natural." She takes another spoon full of ball bearings. She chuckles softly. "Chrome always tastes sparkly. There's no other way to describe it. So what do you do?""

"Maybe to you, but I'd wager that kids born in this century don't know that it was even a band." Although apparently -he- does. The sandwich is worked on before he moves to one of the bags of chips he grabbed, "Do? Apparently I am here to start my Freshman year of High School."

Sydney nods. "Welcome to the school." She chuckles a little. "You do. You're a classic rock fan, or… what?"

There's another little wry smirk; he apparently likes being obtuse. "Sure, we can say that. Although I still would classify them as Heavy Metal over Classic Rock." Sebastian pops a few chips, bemused.

You say, "Old school metal. The modern stuff is pretty different." Syd chuckles. "A lot of what I liked back in the day is just called hair band stuff now. I mean, Aerosmith… Zep… The cool thing is they're starting to make music like that again now."

"You mean the same groups or other groups that are making music that sound more like Hair Band Metal? I mean, I know Steven Tyler is still around and performing and as old as dirt…" and there's actually a pause and a contemplative look to his sandwich before he takes another bite.

You say, "Both. I mean he looks like my grandma now. But I was thinking like… In This Moment or Pretty Reckless, or Halestorm… Some of their stuff you could drop it in the 80s and except for the lead singer being female, it'd fit right in."

"Nothing wrong with a strong, female vocal. I mean, look at Heart or Blondie. Can't get more Rockin' than that." So Sebastian obviously does know the older groups despite being a Freshman and seemingly barely into puberty.

Sydney laughs. "Oh my god. Blondie. I haven't heard that name in a long time. What's with you and classic rock anyway?"

Sebastian smirks 'mysteriously' again, "I'm more than I seem." Because being enigmatic is fun and if he's going to be forced to go through four years of adolescent Hell, he's going to try and find a way to at least be amused…possibly at the expense of others.

You say, "Transformers, more than meets the eye…" Syd laughs. She slurps the bowl dry, having finished the steel in it. "So spill. How old are you really?"

"No metal on me, thank you very much. For one, it's too brittle." The sandwich is finished and Sebastian opens up the other bag of chips that he got with his lunch. "Me? Why, I'm fourteen." He can't quite say it without a tinge of disgust. "How old do I look?"

You say, "'Bout fourteen. But you sound like me, with your head stuck in the 80s. So on paper, it's been 52 years since I was born, but I only get credit for a bit over 16 of those. Except for Netflix. They asked my date of birth and decided I was fine.""

Sebastian chuckles, "Naah, I'm not stuck in the 80's." Not any sort of time traveler. "On paper. But you were in stasis, right? Sort of like Captain America. So you're not -really- 52."

Sydney shrugs. "Depends how you slice it. But yeah, I was frozen solid for decades in the middle there." Syd yawns, covering her mouth. "Sorry. Late night last night. Out watching stars with Cora.

"So, mentally, you're still sixteen…and not fifty-two." He chomps another couple of chips, "So you're allowed to be out at night?" There's a little sigh, "That's a relief. I mean, I'm stuck on this rock so I'm glad to know we aren't locked in our rooms at night."

Sydney shrugs. "Dunno. It's summer, so things are a little more relaxed. But no, I wasn't locked in, at any rate. And it's a nice rock with a beach. You like swimming or hanging out on the beach?

Sebastian shrugs, "I mean, they're both fine, I guess. I never really spent much time at the beach. Or swimming. I prefer my water to be a little more solid…easier to deal with, usually. I mean, drinking it's fine…soup…"

Sydney chuckles. "I like hanging out on the beach, but I can't swim at all. I'm ridiculously negatively buoyant. But yeah, lying in the sun? Awesome.
There's another pensive thought before he gives a little shake of his head, "I don't think I could affect the whole ocean," especially right now, "But if you ever want to walk around on a swimming pool or something, I might be able to help with that." There's another look at her, "Don't you get really hot in the sun?"
Sydney nods. "Oh yeah. I can get a couple hundred degrees, easy. I wade into the water now and then to cool off so I don't burn anyone." She cocks her head. "What powers do you have, exactly?"

Sebastian's eyebrows raise, "And that doesn't mess with the integrity? Because usually metal that's heated and suddenly cooled becomes brittle and weak." There's a blink after the question. He wasn't clear enough? "I turn water solid." He'll let her figure out the rest.

You say, "Ohhh, you're an ice power." Syd chuckles a little ruefully. "Just so you know, I'm pretty sensitive to cold. I solidify below a certain temperature. Way above freezing. But no, I'm kind of a non-Newtonian fluid." She holds out her hand. "Here. Feel."

"So noted," about the cold vulnerability. There is a look at the offered hand before Sebastian shakes his head, "Thanks, but the temptation would be way too strong. So I think I'll pass if that's ok with you."

Sydney blinks. "Temptation to do what? Freeze my hand?"

Sebastian shrugs and pops another chip, "Maybe. You just exposed a vulnerability. Do you tell everyone what your weaknesses are? Because in this world, that's sort of like tattooing your Social Security Number on your forehead."

Sydney rolls her eyes. "No. I tell people who might have my back in a fight so they don't solidify me at a bad time."

"Pfft, where's the fun in that? I mean, unless we had completely different goals in the fight. But I'm pretty sure that I have to be on your side. In an important fight. Not if we're fighting over politics or things like that. No promises in those sorts of fights."

Sydney laughs. "Sold." She offers her hand to shake.
Sebastian looks at the offered hand and shakes his head, "Nice try…not interested in being tested until I have to deal with classes." He finishes off his chips and goes to open whatever snack-cake he grabbed for 'dessert'.

Sydney frowns a little. "I wasn't testing you. Are you cold all the time or something?"

"No…" and the snack-cake is looked at for a moment before Sebastian takes a bite. Mid-bite, his eyes turn a silvery blue, "You'll know when I'm cold." A plume of cold air leaves his lips as he speaks.

Sydney nods. "Good." Syd nods. She shrugs at Sebastian. "You'll know when I'm pissed the same way. I try not to hurt people by accident."

"Will I? And I don't hurt people by accident either. I tend to hurt them on purpose." The snack cake gets a good bite and he actually looks at the remaining bit with some surprise, "Oh, my god…I forgot how good these were!"

Sydney nods. "I imagine." She looks away. "Well anyway. Nice meeting you."

The blue eyes start to fade back to their normal brown. "And if I hurt anyone here on purpose, I get thrown in a power-dampening cell for the rest of my now-very-long life. So you're probably safe. Just so you know."

You say, "Good to know." Syd nods. "I'm gonna go lie out in the sun on the beach. You take care."
