Coral Springs Courtyard

The path leads up the hill and into a large cobblestoned courtyard surrounded by four buildings. In the center of the courtyard is a greenspace, landscaped with flowers that spell out Coral Springs. In the center of the greenspace is a large statue, a memorial to the lives that were lost during the attack on the previous school. In the distance the tip of a lighthouse can ben seen. Between the buildings is a view of the ocean. It seems the school has been built on the tallest cliff of the island and has a lovely view of the open ocean to the southeast.
With the view between the buildings it almost seems like you can take to the skies and FLY. Maybe if you had wings, or some other way to FLY you could.
It is a fall day. The weather is warm and fair.

So most skaters would have a hard time finding a good place to board about here. Afterall, there's not *really* a skate park and most tend to frown on people going on the sidewalks.
Most people aren't Zolin though.
Something more akin to a hover board than skate board, Zolin is here zipping around the interior of the courtyard. The terrain didn't really matter, nor did he actually have contact with any of the things he 'grinded' on. Instead, his moves were fast and loose and there seemed to be a slight cushion of.. something.. between board and object, keeping him above it all.

Shades steps out of classes, and almost immediately spots Zolin. "Dude!" he shouts, running over to be in a position to throw a hi-five when the skate-flying teen makes his next pass. "That is freaking AWESOME! Did you build that? Can I give it a try?!"

Zolin chuckles as Shades goes for a high five, he'd make sure to give one in passing, banks, then come slowing to a stop next to Shades. Once stopped, there's that slight shift as the wheels of the board finally touch ground. "Thanks man.. but.. ahh.. it's.. not quite like that. Board is a board. The rest is me. But if you wanted to hover a bit.. I can probably do that for ya.."

Shades hops at the chance, literally as soon as Zolin's not on the board, his backpack and umbrella clattering to the ground. "Heck yeah! Uh, I'm Shades, by the way," he says, clearly remembering that, you know, introductions are a thing. "Man, I haven't been on a board in months! How's this work, do you like, have to chant or anything? Oh man, are you another wizard? This place is like freaking Hogwarts!"

<FS3> Zolin rolls Gravity Control: Good Success.
Zolin steps back and laughs, shaking his head. As Shades gives his name, Zolin gives an upnod back. "Zolin.. and no, ain't nothin to do with magic. This is gravity." He motions and that feel that Shade's feet are suddenly a bit heavier would settle in, enough to allow him to stay on the board as Zolin lifts it and him slightly. "Alright. Lean. It's based off your center of gravity.. with gravity pointing down, for now."

"wh-WHOA" Shades shouts, wobbling a bit wildly. For a moment, it seems like he'll overtip to his back- but then he manages to right himself. Taking a deep breath, he rights, and then leans forward just a little. And… "Hey, do I have to like… push to get the kinda speed you had man?" he asks, while floating forward at a modestly sedate pace.

Zolin chuckles a little. "Nah. Like I said, center of gravity. Get a feel for it. Then I'll show you what happens when gravity doesn't point down. Just do a lap first." Zolin motions around in a vague circle with one hand, then arms cross with a grin, watching Shades on his board.

Shades hmphs, and leans forward, shifting his hips and legs slightly. "So you can- whoa -do like… stuff with gravity? That's pretty freaking cool. But, uh, couldn't you just like… fly, then? Like, without the board?" he asks, as he starts to gain speed. "Or I guess, like, jump super high? Dude, you must be awesome at basketball!"

<FS3> Zolin rolls Gravity Control: Failure.
Zolin chuckles, watching Shades as he starts to get the hang of it. Zolin nods lightly. "Controlling gravity. I also have a bubble about me of zero gravity.. why the belt." At the mention of flying, Zolin shudders, shifting on his feet a little and that bubble that had been keeping Shades up, suddenly inverts, the board slamming to the dirt and embedding slightly, potentially sending Shades for a trip from the sudden lack of forward momentum. "No.. no no no.. no.. I.. I don't fly.. Shades.. Just.. no."

Shades thuds to the earth, tumbling forward and skidding on his knees. "Madre-" he starts with a hiss, before gingerly getting up and dusting his knees off. "Dude, sorry. You didn't need to slam on the brakes though," he says, a little sourly.

<FS3> Zolin rolls Mind: Good Success.
It only takes a look at Zolin to see he's pale, arms folded across his chest, hugging himself as he'd work on focusing his breathing and calming down. Shaking his head slowly, he shivers a little. "No.. no sorry.. I.. sorry.. It's.. bad.. bad memories that comes up. I didn't mean to.. are.. are you ok?"

Shades high-lifts one leg, then the other, then gives his palms a shake. "Yeah, I'm good," he replies, walking over to pick resling his backpack and umbrella. Once he's done so, he turns back towards Zolin and gives him a head-tilt. "You okay man? You look like you saw a ghost or something."

<FS3> Zolin rolls Gravity Control: Good Success.
Zolin nods slowly, continuing to calm down. Once Shades steps away, Zolin motions and has that board free itself and float over to him. "I.. I'm a mutant. My power awoke in me.. while I was asleep. On the second floor of our house.. I felt like I was falling and woke up to almost fly out the window that was open.. My mom.. she had to pull me in and tie me down to the bed.. When gravity doesn't pull you down, Shades? The earth rotates enough that you'll free fall sideways.. until you hit something."

Shades bites his lip, looking at his feet. "Sorry man," he offers. "I should of thought about that." Then he looks up, grinning again. "Still, that board is pretty freaking awesome! And the way you were zipping around on it was wild!"

Zolin grabs the board and looks at it, then smiles a little and offers it out to Shades. "Try carrying it. You'll see why this one is custom made for me."
Picking it up, or holding it, would have it easily weighing 10 or 15 lbs. It's heavy, everything is triple reinforced and a lot of it is solid metal bracing. It's kind of surprising that Zolin carries it one handed so easily.

Shades takes it with one hand, and almost drops it, fingers tightening as he slings it close to his chest before he can bring his other hand around to help with control. "Dude, you could kill someone with this thing! I guess the extra weight like, helps you guide it better?" He runs a finger along the side he had his feet on. "Huh. Thought it'd be sticky or something."

Zolin smiles and shakes his head. "Nah.. I latched you to it. Gravity, no your feet. It weighs like that so it can take hits as I need it to.. Grinding on a lot of things break a lesser board.. Mine doesn't break easily."

Shades passes the board back. "Dude, you're gonna be an awesome superhero! Crooks try and run, and you can just *pbbt* basically tape 'em to the ground!" He fakes trying to lift his feet. "Oh crap, I can't run, it's the G-man!"

Zolin smiles sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "Something like that.. I usually just pin people to the ground, not just their feet. Helps stop them trying to shoot people.."

"SEE!" Shades shouts, raising a fist. "Awesome superhero! I hadn't even thought about that!" He's grinning from ear to ear. "Can I get a picture? And are you on MyFaceJournal? I'm RealShadySlim!"

Zolin chuckles softly, shaking his head. "No.. I try to avoid showing up or showing off. People usually look like they trip is all. And.. I haven't.. really. I mean. I've seen talk about it. But never really got into that sorta thing."

Shades is on the verge of responding when a chirping tune comes from his blazer. "Uh, hold on-" he says, pulling out his phone, and then shakes his fist, frowning. "Crap- I was supposed to get lunch and I've got class in fifteen, crap crap crap-" He starts to pelt towards the cafeteria. "It was awesome meeting you Zolin! Thanks for letting me try your board!"
