Old City Park

This area used to be a more prominent area of the town, when the local warehouse was active and the abandoned houses were filled with people. Now, it's just an eyesore, a blight on the town. The concrete basketball court has cracks and greenery poking up through it here and there, the goals are still in place, but the nets are long gone. Bleachers on one side are missing a few slats, but are generally safe to sit on. There is a large tractor tire that serves as a sandbox. Or a litter box for stray cats. A swing is rusted, the chains holding strong despite the rust, and the wooden slats faded from red to natural wood. A jungle gym and monkey bars, teeter totters, and a very squeaky merry go round complete the playground equipment. Surrounding everything, amid everything, there are vines and greenery, overgrown grass, it looks as if the local forest has taken over and engulfed the area in greenery.

A small pond where fishing is possible is tucked away amid some trees, a bridge spanning across it, though the rails and some of the foot boards are missing in some places. This too is overgrown with flora, vines, plants, greenery abounds. It's a derelict park, but somehow, kids still find it useful now and then, but mostly the older ones, while parents choose to take their younger kids across town to the new park.

For the scrying, Loukanos required a pond and managed to find and teleport himself, Besa, and whoever else the Egyptian wanted to bring for the information reveal there. He personally did not bring anyone along since what they find may not be meant for public eyes. With the strangely warmer weather, Loukanos seems more at his element. He hates the snow; it's a striking reminder that he shouldn't here. As he leads the group to the pond, he comments, "Demeter must be pleased, today! That will make this go much smoother," It also means he can dress lightly and not stand out. Today, he wears a light blue tee, cotton shorts, and espadrilles.

Besa would have brought Rain, but mostly because it's near the skate park, and she's been jonesing to skate. Even with the warmer weather, the Egyptian teen has dark hoodie on and up. He'd rather not get recognized and jumped. The designer jeans Rain picked out for him fit nicely, not that he's strutting. He seems down, but then again, there's a cult of priests trying to kidnap him. Dark eyes look around and he nods about the weather. His voice is quiet, "That is good." Smooth is good, right?

"It is," Loukanos nods pleased. "It's best to ask Mother for stuff when she's in a good mood." If you ignore the fact that he is asking her for divine knowledge, he almost sounds like a normal teenager. In both of his hands is a small sheaf of wheat. He glances at the pond and the rest of their surroundings. "This place is not particularly attractive to look at, but it is close to the Earth. It will do nicely."

Besa can understand that. He smiles, although he's clearly nervous. "is there anything I can do to make it better?"

"Nope. Just relax. The crystal I used initially did not work. I figured being close to nature might grant an easier connection. We will stop them," Loukanos steps forward and looks into the small pond. From his pocket, he brings out a handful of soil and throws it into the water. Then, his eyes fall closed, and he mutters in an ancient tongue. His chin is tilted slightly to the sky almost like he is in prayer. He kneels and drops the sheaf of wheat into the water. For what seems to him to be an eternity, he holds his breath in anticipation. In reality, it is only a moment later when the sheaf sinks, and he lets out that breath. "This is good." The pond shimmers a golden light as it reveals a message that only Louk can interpret.

Besa blinks, moving closer to Louk. Looking down at the pond itself. He listens to the chanting, feeling a certain comfort in the ritual that's happening. He stays quiet, not wanting to interrupt, but he looks at the golden message that he can't read.

The golden light fades leaving behind an image that fades slowly into view. An occasional ripple makes the image go all wonky but it remains steady. It is probably not at all what anyone expected. Instead of a dark, crypt or the inner tombs of a pyramid, the pair is looking into what seems to be a posh bedroom. A large four-poster bed dominates the scene, upon which lays an emaciated, ancient looking figure. He is hooked up to a few of the usual machines, a heart rate monitor beeps, a respirator breaths for him, and an IV makes sure he stays hydrated. Above the bed, engraved on the wall are glowing runes, most likely a spell to help sustain the man on the bed beyond what the machines can do.

Loukanos stares wordlessly at the water as it ripples into an image. "Blessed be the Law-Bringer." He mutters in thanks before briefly smiling over at Besa. Glancing back at the pond, he searches deeper in the hopes of gaining sight beyond vision. Behind that sapphire gaze is a similarly golden hue.

Besa blinks, not expecting that. That's a very fancy bed. His head tilts, "…that's…" No, that can't be right. He tries to focus on the runes, are they like the ones the priests use?

"Whoever that is," Loukanos gives Besa a searching look when the Egyptian shows signs of recognizing whoever this is. He shifts his weight. "They are not in Egypt. Mother did not reveal their exact location, but that man resides in someplace new and alive. It is still a desert, though." He begins to consider. "Know any place like that?"

Besa's frowning, this is…not possible. "I…do not know…" He's distracted thought, trying to understand. "They….it is to save him….to extend his life.." but still, that's not possible. Not like that. He bites his lower lip, eyeing the water, "He…he resembles…my first head priest." Very first.

"What type of unholy method is he using to live this long," From what the ancient teen has told him, Loukanos knows Besa's really old, so for this man to still be living… "Those runes?" He wrinkles his nose, then a light bulb goes off in his head. "That means the priests are likely assembled around him. End his life, and the others will be gone with the winds."

The runes are certainly like the runes the ancient priests used in their magics. Voices start to come from the image, the quality isn't the best. It sounds like they are talking from a distance, and it is hollow sounding like there is a lot of bucket between the speakers and Loukanos and Besa. They are speaking in modern Coptic as well.

"The small piece we have isn't enough." one voice says. "We need the whole heart."

The image zooms out and pans around, giving a better view of the room, seems to be a large hotel room, a luxurious one at that and focuses on the two men speaking.

"He is well guarded. Our last attempt failed, and the other group woke up to find themselves in the cargo section of an airplane and were arrested as terrorists." there was a segment about that on the news recently, but the link between them and the priests is new.

"Without the heart of In'Herit, Amensut," that's a name that Besa would remember and not fondly "cannot be fully revived."

Besa's lip trembles, the pieces coming together. His hand reaches put to cover his heart. His eyes widen at the name and he actually says "No!" in Coptic.

Loukanos contemplates on the conversation the priests (?) are having. He is watching intently. The only thing that breaks his focus is Besa yelling. "What?" He asks, looking between the image and the small teen. "You recognize that name?"

Not thinking, Besa speaks in Coptic, "He…he is dead. Many, many years! It is not possible." He looks up at Louk, eyes fearful. "This is bad, Loukanos. Very bad."

"Who is he?" Loukanos adjusts his focus from the pond to Besa and his words. Luckily, Coptic is one of the languages he can fluently understand and be understood in, even if he doesn't actually know it. "Take a deep breath," He places a soothing hand on the other boy's shoulder. Cool heads prevail, after all. "Why would they want to bring him back?"

Perfect hair flails around as Besa shakes his head, "I…I just know my priests fought and killed him…." Killed as in dead. "He was wrapped, Loukanos!" apparently Besa's the only one that gets to become unwrapped! He's tense, eyes going back to the vision in the water.

Loukanos steps back and ponders, wrapping one arm around his chest and propping his hand underneath his chin. "If the priests killed him…" He lets the question hang but the rest is clear. Why would they want him back? Loukanos looks back at the water. "Is that everything?"

The conversation between the two priests has been ongoing while Besa and Loukanos spoke for a bit, when they focus on the scrying circle again they have moved on to discussing tactics and methods of capturing or luring Besa to them.

Besa inhales to answer, but then is quiet to be able to hear what they have planned. His fist tightens with anxiety. He will kill them all if they mention the Masters Family. Or the school.

Loukanos takes the cue from Besa that it's better they listen to the rest of the conversation. Do they mention the school or the Masters family?

"Whatever magic is protecting the school is beyond what we are capable of getting past." the one says to the other "I have to assume it is the Witch's doing." that is a mention, but there is nothing threatening in it.

"Find a way to break the protections, until then he will just have to find some bait to get In'herit's attention." no other names are mentioned but they both seem to know what the bait will be

Besa swallows, fear starting to cause tears to form in his eyes. The Witch. Bait. Oh God. His chest tightens and a small whimper escapes him. He's endangering everyone.

"Witch?" Loukanos shifts his weight. "They mean the mother of the twins, correct?" Unlike Besa, Louk isn't jumping to conclusions on what the bait is. He just doesn't have enough information to make that assumption. Noticing the other's fear, the godling says, "Besa, you must focus. If you are to protect the people you care about, you have to be brave."

Besa nods quietly, yes, Mrs. Masters. And oh, Besa's making assumptions. So many assumptions. A quick glance to Louk and then back to see if anything else is said. He tries to focus on the men, if he can see faces, names. He doesn't understand where they are though. A pyramid in a city? How is that possible?

Well it sounds like the White Witch is doing something at least, protective spells on the school…what about the priests that got arrested as terrorists, who was behind that one? Obviously ally.

Not much else is said between the preists as more come in and they start talking about other things. Something about the Strip not being a great place to get dinner? What?

That doesn't ring any bells for Loukanos. He'll have to look into that, but for now, he looks at Besa and says, "I think that's everything we'll get from them. Perhaps we should find Rain and head back to the school."

Strip? Besa's hand goes up again to his chest, rubbing to try to get it to not hurt so much. Right about now he's wishing he brought Cocoa. He'll nod to Louk, not taking his eyes off the water's surface though. His voice is soft, barely a whisper, "Very well."
