Ocean Floor Hub Coral Springs

The central hub of the lowest level is utilitarian in nature, simply an open space with white walls. There are serval tunnels leading off from here. One is wide open and the ocean can be glimpsed from this tunnel, it is marked Paragon Island. There are double doors that can seal off this tunnel if needed. Of the other tunnels, the prominent ones hold plaques overhead. Each indicated it belongs to one of the four school teams. There is an occasional soft sofa like bench all the walls for students, along with some plants that do not require much sunlight.

A notice has been posted. An official sign now hangs on the yellow taped laundry room door, it reads: Notice: Restricted Access, Students Prohibitied.

Afternoon finds Vinny seated at one of the sofas, leaning back in it as he seems focused on the sketch book he's drawing something in. He's whistling a bit as he does, some kind of merry melody at the moment, it would seem.

The last day of the school year usually sees kids going wild and crazy once they're free of the classrooms. Unfortunately, no matter how much she'd like to celebrate and party, Kaylee Blake still had detention. On the last day of school. How awesome is that, right? Not awesome at all, that's how! After most of the kids have probably taken off for the city for merry-making, Kaylee exits the elevator into the student hub looking rather dour. Which is highly unusual for everyone's typical ray of sunshine. She plods into the hub, finds and empty couch, and just flops down face first with a dramatic sigh, spread-eagled on the sofa. "Stick a fork in me," she announces to nobody in particular.

Looking up as he hears the footsteps, Vinny is unable to hold back a brief grin. "A fork? Will you be lying like that, then?" It's said rather lightly as he looks like he considers something, then turns a page in the sketchbook.

"Yup! Just bring the shovels and bury me RIGHT HERE," Kaylee pronounces. She then sighs loudly again, pushing herself over and sitting back up on the couch. She straightens out her uniform a little and tucks her hair back behind her ears as she settles in on the couch. "Sorry if I interrupted you, Vinny. I hope I didn't mess up your drawing!" she offers.

"You know…" Vinny begins. "If I buried you right here, I think the faculty would get a bit… cranky or something?" Watching her a bit carefully as she settles in better on the couch, he starts sketching again, offering a brief grin. "Don't worry about it. What's got you in such a mood, if I may ask?" Continuing to sketch while he speaks, looking between the girl and the book.

Kaylee just smirks ruefully. "Oh, I don't know. They're already pretty cranky with me, they might just as soon be happy to be rid of me," she replies, though she (probably) doesn't mean it. She sighs again, settling back on the couch and shrugs. "I'm sorry. I've been trying to cheer up, but you wouldn't BELIEVE how messy some kids leave their lockers at the end of the year! Just because they know we're gonna have to clean it out FOR them if they don't! Some of them were just … so ewww." Kaylee makes a face and shakes her head. "I'm never getting service detention again as long as I live," she resolves.
<FS3> Vinny rolls Drawing: Failure.

"Well, maybe they would be happy to be rid of you, but I'm sure they would be cranky with me?" Vinny replies with a grin, before he nods as he hears the part about the lockers. "Thankfully, I haven't had mine long enough for it to end up like that…" he replies, before he grimaces at something in the book. "No, that's not quite right…" he mutters to himself. Turning another page, a bit quickly. "Not getting that kind of detention again might probably help, yes."

"Tell me about it," Kaylee agrees about detention. "So what are you up to, Michaelangelo?" she asks, smiling as she settle back into the couch. "How come you're not out raising heck with everybody else? Schools out for summer, you know?"

Starting another attempt at a drawing, Vinny smiles. "Just relaxing a bit for tonight, I think. I was considering heading out with the others, but I couldn't find my earplugs. When I started looking for them, I found the book instead, and decided to just relax a bit, you know…"

Kaylee cants her head to the side, eyebrows perking up curiously. "Earplugs? Why would you need earplugs?" And then, she gasps and suddenly looks worried. "Did they say they were going to a concert? Is there a concert I didn't no about!? Nobody told me anything bout a concert!"

Vinny shakes his head a little as he hears that. "No, I don't think they're going to a concert. I just need the earplugs when I go out where there's a lot of noise. It's part of my abilities, the senses, you see…"

"Oh!" Kaylee chirps and then relaxes again- not left behind! She pulls her legs up onto the couch and tucks them under her as she leans onto the arm of the sofa. "Actually, I don't see. Well, not well, anyway. That's why I've got my glasses!" she jokes, reaching behind her ear to press on the stem of her glasses, causing them to waggle up and down on her face. "I haven't ever really asked you; what do you do?" she adds.

Pausing the sketching, Vinny grins momentarily. "Me?" A brief pause, before he shrugs a bit. "I suppose I'm more or less the puppy. I mean, most of my abilities are the senses, as well as fast reflexes…"

Kaylee grins at that, giggling a little. "Are you super fun to play with and love to cuddle, too?" she asks, visions of Vinny the Puppy dancing in her head. "So, like, you've got super hearing, super seeing, super smelling …?" she surmises.

There's a brief pause as he hears that first question. "I… think so? Maybe?" he replies, with a brief smile. Nodding a bit at that second topic. "Yes. Which is why I need the earplugs when there's lots of noise."

Kaylee nods! "Makes sense!" she agrees. "Yeah, my eyes are slowly going bad, so I have to wear my glasses when I want to use them. But, if I close my eyes or take my glasses off, I can actually just kinda sense where all the light in the room is. But they want me to wear my glasses as much as possible so that I can try and not be totally blind by the time I graduate," Kaylee explains happily. Apparently, going blind doesn't really bother her that much.
GAME: Save complete.

"You're going blind?" There's a brief pause as Vinny hears that. "That sounds… I don't know… I don't think I can imagine how that must be…" A brief pause, as he offers her a smile. "Aside from that, what is it you do?"

Kaylee mrrs and shrugs her shoulders a little when Vinny sounds sad about going blind. "It's not like I'm going TOTALLY blind. Like, when I'm not using my eyes, I can still see colors and shapes and everything. I can tell pretty much exactly where anything is in my immediate area, even if it's under or behind stuff. Really, the only thing I can't see are fine details or stuff that's like, written down or whatever. But, anything bright enough or reflective, I can see fine. Except mirrors. And glass. Glass gets me every time," she says, smirking again and snickering. "And … I shine! That's really about it, right now. I can make stuff with my light, or shoot beams of light. Oh, and I can kinda hide myself by not letting light bounce off of me. But that's about it."

Vinny nods a little as he hears the explanation, offering her a smile. "That's not as bad as it sounded at first," he offers, before he nods a little as he hears about the abilities, especially that last one. "Hide yourself? That's a quite neat trick…"

Kaylee noddles again, smiling. She holds her hand up and turns it back and forth for a second. Then, it fades from sight, only the outline somewhat visible, except for the rest of her arm. "I'm still really not very good at controlling it. Most of the time, it's still just a reflex reaction when I get scared or upset. But, I'm getting better!"

"Nice…" Vinny replies as he sees that, before he nods, "We are all still getting better at what we do. That's what we're in school for, right?" Smiling a little as he adds, "It would seem that both of us will be better suited for getting hold of information when we are done with school than those ending up in the big fights, or something."

Kaylee just shrugs a little, dropping her hand back to her lap. "As long as I can help people, I don't really care," she says. "So … what grade did you just finish?" she asks, reaching for a magazine on one of the adjacent coffee tables. She starts flipping through it idly, not really very interested in its actual contents.

Vinny nods in agreement. "Helping people is the main thing, I agree. Besides, for any kind of a team to work, there must be people in all the different roles, right?" Glancing to his sketchbook again, he closes it. "Sophomore year. Most of it was done back home, though. You?"

"Just finishd 9th grade!" Kaylee announces triumphantly, pumping her fist into the air to celebrate levelling up. "I came right at the end of the semester, though. It took them a while to get my transfer arranged out of my old school. I've been here for about a couple months now. When did you get here?"

"A few months before that, I think. My sister came here first, then me just a little while later. And then our parents moved to town, so we're all nearby now. A bit different from where we used to live, but still okay."

"You've got a sister? I don't think I knew that. Who's your sister?" Kaylee asks. Then, she cants her head to the side a little. "So … your parents know about and are cool about your powers, then?"

Vinny smiles, "Annaliesa. She's in Ares too." Vinny replies, before he nods. "They only expected my sister to have powers, though. Since she has the same ones as mother, after all."

"Annaliesa?" Kaylee repeats, canting her head to the side. After a moment of searching her internal rolodex, she shakes her head and shrugs. "Nope, I don't think I've met her. So does your whole family have powers, then? I'm the only one in my family, and only my parents know. The counselors from here had a pretty long talk with them before I came."

"Father doesn't have powers. I wasn't supposed to either, but it happened when a dog bit me." Vinny replies, before he adds, "The powers that my sister and mother has only follow the female part of the family."

"Oh! … really? That's weird!" Kaylee considers that for a few seconds, and then shrugs again. "Huh! I didn't know powers could do that," she adds, smiling again. "So do you and your sister get along? She's not mad that you got powers or anything when you weren't supposed to, is she?"

Vinny smiles, "We've always gotten along quite well. And I don't think she's mad about that. It's quite different powers, after all."

Kaylee nods and returns the smile. "Well, that's good! I can't really imagine what it would be like, having powers run in your family …. I mean, I guess it's probably a bit easier making the adjustment, since you already know about it and stuff. I'm used to only hearing or reading about superhumans on the news. Now, I'm on the other side of it and it's …," Kaylee trails off as she stops to think about it. She tucks a few strands of hair behind her ear, considering. "I don't know. It's real different. I thought I was all super ready for it, but I just proved I'm definitely not when we went and rescued Lynzee." Kaylee glowers about that, her lips pursing as she furrows her brow a little.

Vinny nods as he hears that. "One can never really be ready for it, I think. Even those who has known about their powers for long." There's a brief pause, before he adds, "At least that's what I think."

Kaylee thinks about that for a little bit, then shrugs her shoulders. "I don't know! But, then, that's why we've got counselors and stuff here, to help us deal with it all," she says, smiling. "How do you like it here, overall? I mean, I don't really have anything to compare it to, since I've never been around supers before. I get really homesick, sometimes, for all my normal friends."

"Overall? Quite well, it's good with a place we can just be ourselves, right?" A brief moment of pause again, before he adds, "It's been interesting, though. Not used to so many people in one place."

"… really!? Where are you FROM?" Kaylee asks, surprised at his last statement. "I mean, I'm from rural Connecticut, and we still had almost as many in our class as I do here," she offers.

Vinny smiles, "A small place in Costa Rica. It's a rather quiet place, to be honest. But it was nice." He goes silent again, looking a bit thoughtful.

"… oh! Okay, well I guess that makes sense, then," Kaylee reasons, smiling. When Vinny goes quiet, Kaylee cants her head to the side and watches him, waiting expectantly. When his pause takes longer than Kaylee's idle-timeout, she prods, "You miss it?"

"I missed it a bit more in the beginning, I think. But I still miss it every now and then. It was quiet, and safe, you know…" Vinny smiles, before he adds, "But after all, this is home now. Both the school and the town. It'll be interesting to explore the area a bit more this summer."

Kaylee nods at that and sighs. "Yeah … I'm gonna see plenty of it, I think, with all the community service I have to do, now that school's out," she whines a little. "But so far, it's been pretty good. Weird, but good."

"Community service?" Vinny seems a bit surprised to hear that. "Why?" Nodding a little as he hears that last part. "True."

Kaylee blinks in surprise when Vinny asks about her community service. "You … haven't heard? The four of us that went to rescue Lynzee, we all got in big trouble. Since I was the one who started it, I got in worse. So now I have to do service in the community, not just on campus. Me and Tabitha start on Monday," she explains.

"Ah, I see. Which is why you were cleaning lockers?" Vinny asks after a few moments, before he adds, "Sorry to hear that."

Kaylee sighs and nods. "Yup! THAT'S why I was cleaning lockers," she announces. She sighs, then, and strrrreeeeetches, before rising up off of the couch and straightening out her skirt and uniform some more. "So are you gonna be staying with your family this summer, or will yo ube around the dorms?" she asks.

Vinny smiles, "With the family, I think. But that's just in town now, so there's not too much distance. You will be staying here, then?"

Kaylee nods and smiles. "Yup. All except for like, two weeks, I'll be here! But, I wanna go get out of this uniform and shower and wash all this school year off of me, so I'll see you later, Vinny! Have a good summer!"

"See you later!" Vinny replies, smiling as he opens his book again. Time to get some of those sketches improved, right?
