A massive dome overhead is completely revealing of the ocean above it. This is a full size gym, with basketball hoops along the walls ready for play. Ropes hanging from a secion of that dome ceiling ready to be climbed are tied off to not impede on gym floor activity. Excersize equipment and weights are off to the far end. At anytime the floor can be sectioned off for multiple team games to be played if needed. There are locker rooms for girls and boys to one side and opposite this are wooden bleachers that can be pulled out if needed for spectators.

Grayson is sitting on a workout bench. He's wearing a pair of school sweats and a tank top. He's sweaty, having been working out for a bit, and is doing one-arm curls with a small dumbbell, his elbow on his knee. He grunts a little with each lift, focusing on his posture. He's the only one in here, given the middle of the afternoon on a day when most of the other students seem to have snuck off to the mainland.

Since it's not a regular day of classes, Annaliesa isn't in anything but street clothes. A pair of faded jeans, a t-shirt, but all beneath a thick, thick parka. A nod to the cold weather of the area. She steps into the gym, not really expecting to find anyone, but not sure of anyone else's schedule. When she notices it's occupied, she hesitates just inside. "Hello," she greets with a crooked smile. "Am I interrupting?"

Grayson pauses, sitting the dumbbell down on the floor, and looking over toward the girl as she enters. He gestures at the empty gym, "By all means," he offers. "Plenty of room." He stands, wiggling his arms to get the blood running back into them. "You um…" He furrows his brow a little, studying her. "You're the mermaid, right?" he asks.

Stepping inside further as soon as the invitation was given out, Annaliesa walks over to one of the treadmill type machines and looks at it curiously. It's not something she's operated a lot before, but she looks intrigued with the controls. The question catches her though and she turns and gives him a bit of a mysterious smile, "I'm not used to being the exception. In my pod, I'm just.. another mermaid." The smile widens a touch. "But yes, I am a mermaid, not necessarily the mermaid." Amusement touches her eyes. "You're in Ares also, right?"

Grayson walks over to her, "I am, yeah. Grayson." He sniffs, shrugging his broad shoulders a little, "I heard about you. You can…" He moves his hands through the air, "manipulate and control water, right?" He smirks, the little gap between his two front teeth just visible in his wide mouth. "You also go full fish tail?"

Tilting her head a bit, Annaliesa watches as he approaches, watching the shrug but mostly his hands as they move for the demonstration. "Yes, I can do different things with water." Catching the smirk, it only brings her to smile again. "Full fish tail, I was actually born a mermaid, so I'm not sure if I shift to human form or if I shift to mermaid form." She leans against the treadmill a little, curious, "What about you?"

Grayson nods, and he thinks a long moment before he answers her question. "Well…" He turns and walks to a nearby bench and flops down on it. "I don't have a tail, but, it sounds like our powers are pretty similar, Ariel." He sniffs, his face twisting a bit when he does, and he leans his elbows on his knees. "I can suck the water from the air, make it do what I want. Blast it at folks who piss me off." He shrugs, "No tail, though."

"And freeze it?" Annaliesa watches as he walks over to the bench and she moves over to the weight bench he had vacated and has a seat on it. Her posture is straight, her expression friendly if somewhat inquisitive. "Annaliesa," she gently corrects, despite her catching the gist of his name for her. "Or Anna, if you prefer." She does look curious about finding another like her. "Funnily enough, only the females in my family ever were mermaids. My father, grandfather, brother, none of them are like me and my mother and grandmother and those before her. Is anyone in your family like me?"

Grayson chuckles, "No, I can't freeze it." He watches her move to the bench. "Like you?" He shakes his head, "No. My um…" He looks down a moment, like this is maybe not his favorite subject. "My mother was an elementals like me, but she controlled air, not water."

Curiouser and Curiouser. Annaliesa quirks her lips in a sort of sympathetic smile when he looks down. "She controlled air. What about your father?" She seems genuinely interested in what sort of powers he came from at least. "You can do anything else with water, but freeze it?"

Grayson stands up, quickly, rolling his eyes and he mumbles, "I don't know my real father." He walks over to the stack of towels and yanks one off the rack, wiping off his face. Not looking back at her, he answers, "Pretty much, I guess. No freezing. Not yet, anyway. Maybe I could one day? I don't know."

"Maybe that's part of why we are all here. To sort of teach each other, or help each other." Annaliesa contemplates to herself while his back is turned to her. "Maybe I could sort of teach you? I know Diego wants to learn how we all communicate under the water. Maybe someone else has something I could learn. Derek can fly. Everyone has something special." She opts not to dredge up the past for him again, by way of mentioning his father. Not yet anyway,.

Grayson shakes his head, "I've never been able to change the temperature of water. Just move it around." He tosses the towel into the dirty towel bin. "And I'm hardly special." He looks her way, "So, what, were you born in the ocean or something?" he asks, changing the subject.

"I was." Annaliesa ponders him and the change of subject but she doesn't push it any. "So was my mother. My brother wasn't. He was born in a hospital." There's a look to his hands as if they could talk about his powers on their own. "Where were you born and does anything affect you using your powers? What else can you do?"

Grayson tilts his head just slightly, "Does your brother have abilities?" He swallows, brow furrowing just a little. "Salt Lake City," he answers, about where he was born. "Docs say I have more water in my body than normal folks. I'm a lot more susceptible to electricity." He inhales, looking up at the water through the glass above them. Exhaling, he looks back at Annaliesa. "I can separate the oxygen from the water if it's in my lungs and breathe. Use the water in my body to toughen up." He shrugs, "They say I'm pretty textbook for an elemental."

Oh Boy, he got her there. Annaliesa rises from where she was seated and walks over to stand nearby him. "Meaning… you can breath under water?" That.. interests her, immensely. Remembering the question about her brother, she gives an almost absent nod. "Vincent has abilities, yes. We were born in Costa Rica. I like the idea of this school, in a way, but I've never gone to a school before. I'm glad this one is in the water, but it's so cold here. So much cold is bad for me and my abilities."

Grayson's brow furrows just a little as she approaches. He chews on the inside of his cheek for a moment, and then nods, "I can, yeah." He shrugs, "Not really a big deal," he dismisses. He purses his lips, looking away, and then sighs. "You should talk to one of those energy girls. All braggadocios about their powers over hot chocolate this morning at breakfast." He rolls his eyes, "Anyway. I have homework." He sniffs, sizing her up once more, and then he begins to leave.

"Breathing underwater is a big deal," Annaliesa tells him with a warm smile, a bit surprised that he dismisses it so easily. "You're the only human I've ever met that could breathe underwater, naturally." She offers him a smile as he begins to leave though. "I've grown up taught never to talk about who or what I am. Maybe they were too, so maybe now that they can talk about it, they're excited." She doesn't try and stop him. "It was nice meeting you, see you in the dorm room."

Grayson glances back at her, pausing a moment. "Huh." He clearly has a thought as he stands there looking at her. He slowly nods to himself, and then he turns, heading out. "Later."
