Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale.
A tale of a mixed-up chick,
whose mother was a goddess and
whose father was a hick.

This particular tale goes back to legendary times in China when Hou Yi, the famous archer god (whose wife Chang E lives in the moon with her pet rabbit). While the stories of Hou Yi and Chang E are well-known and celebrated all over China and its surrounding region of cultural influence, what is not generally known (and definitely NOT celebrated) is that Hou Yi had a sister: Dang Ji.

Like Hou Yi, Dang Ji was a consummate archer, almost as good as her more famous brother. Like Hou Yi she was a great hunter (and indeed possibly superior to him in all hunting skills but for archery). Sadly, however, also unlike her brother, Dang Ji was what the Chinese would dismiss as "dissolute". She was a hedonist of the worst sort; a true wild child. As a result she was cast out of the family and left out of myth and legend until she repaired her wild ways.

Except…

She very much ENJOYED her wild ways, thank you very much. So for thousands of years she wandered the Earth, sharpening her hunting and bow skills, and leading a life of hedonism and thrills. There is speculation that she is the foundation of a lot of local (and not-so-local) "goddess of the hunt" legends. She stridently denies having anything to do with the legends of Diana or Artemis, but she's strangely (almost coquettishly) silent on her influence over the legends of Mielikki, Fliodhais, Daal, Pinga, Banka-Mundi and a whole host of other legendary/divine hunter figures.

Thousands of years of wandering and hedonism had led Dang Ji to mother many children with men who caught her fancy. These she'd typically raise until they could speak before dropping them off at monasteries, nunneries, orphanages, hospitals — whatever the support mechanism of the time was. (This has led to a lot of spin-off local legends as her demigod children went off and did their own heroic things.)

This time it's Janessa's turn: Gong Jianshou (in her mother's language), called Janessa Archer (in her father's language) is the half-goddess offspring of Dang Ji and Stanley Archer, a hick hunter who caught Dang Ji's eye when she was up for a "short fling" (read: shacked up with him for almost 20 years) and now that it's over, Coral Springs is the new "monastery" that Janessa was dropped off at.

IC Events

February 8th
Janessa Archer arrives at Coral Springs, entirely unimpressed with her new lot in life.

RP Hooks

Half-siblings
Janessa's mother has had thousands of years of "flings" which means dozens to hundreds of children. Some of them may still be alive. Use of these half-siblings can drive plots: Will Janessa, for example, side with an evil half-sibling against her classmates or vice versa? What will she do if one of her half-siblings is in trouble? Can a half-sibling be used against her in some way?
Other family
Janessa has a mother and a father, of course. Stanley Archer may have been "bought off" by her mother but may change his mind and come for "his flesh and blood". And, of course, there's a myriad of her mother's relatives on the deity side who may come into play: perhaps trying to erase evidence of her mother's "shame" or perhaps wanting to use Janessa in some scheme or another.
Other deities and demideities
Obviously Janessa isn't the only demigod/dess in the world. Abandoned half-mortals of the world unite? Maybe some kind of a half-deity support group is in order?
Teamwork
Janessa's upbringing verges on wild. She had to take a crash course in the basics of American life to blend in and not sound like a home-schooled conspiracy loon. She CERTAINLY doesn't understand the teams at Coral Springs. Persuading her of a team is a possible RP hook.
Hicksville vs. Big City Life
Yes. To Janessa Shady Cove counts as the "Big City". The "home-schooled conspiracy loon" bit above? That's only one step away from Janessa's reality. Stanley, her father, is a home-schooled conspiracy loon. The only reason Janessa isn't is because of her mother's influence. This doesn't change, however, the fact that Janessa spent most of her life in a home with precisely three people: Stanley Archer, Dang Ji, and herself. There were occasional visitors; mostly people her parents did trade with in assorted animal parts (pelts, teeth, claws, bones, etc. — including some illegal ones from other continents; Dang Ji *is* a goddess, after all). The notion of the outside world was not alien to her. But the reality of it … is something entirely different. There will be culture clashes. Fairly large ones, potentially.
